Trey Whipple

Trey joins Summit Trail Advisors as a Partner and Advisor with more than 25 years of wealth management and capital markets experience. Trey and his team work with a select group of ultra-high net worth individuals, families, family offices, business owners, executives of public and private companies, and professional athletes. The team leverages their expertise in asset allocation and financial planning to implement investment strategies that reflect client objectives. Trey’s in-depth knowledge of financial products, as well as his relationships with investment banks, hedge funds, and many asset managers provide clients with unique access to intellectual capital. Prior to joining Summit Trail, Trey was a Senior Vice President and Advisor at Merrill Lynch for 10 years. He led a multi office team that managed upwards of $1 billion of client assets across equities, fixed income, hedge funds, private debt and private equity funds. Trey was a Portfolio Advisor, Sport and Entertainment Advisor and senior member of the investment committee. Trey joined Merrill from Morgan Stanley, where he held a similar role for 3 years. Before working as an Advisor, Trey spent 15 years in Morgan Stanley’s institutional equity and fixed income businesses, where he was a Managing Director and head of convertible securities sales. Trey, his wife Molly, and their four children have lived in Minnesota since 2019 and prior lived in the New York/New Jersey area. Trey is a board member of the Hobey Baker College Hockey Award Committee.
